Education

Some people think of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley as one gigantic playground. They use the woods and moorland to walk through, the hills for mountain biking, the rivers and rapids to kayak through, the bridleways to ride along.

Learning about our ancestors

But our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is also one of the world’s biggest school rooms. By getting out in the fresh air and up close and personal with nature, children can learn more about why the landscape looks like it does, how our ancestors lived and why the plants and animal that share our world need to be looked after.

The AONB runs a whole programme of events aimed at teaching youngsters about the natural world and their place in it. But instead of being stuck indoors, they’re allowed to get their hands dirty – with mini beast safaris, bilberry hunts, pond dipping and all sorts of other messy, splashy fun.

And knowing how kids like gadgets we’ve devised all sorts of computer games, films and flyovers to keep them entertained as well as educated.

EXPLORE THE EVOLUTION of the CLWYDIAN RANGE & DEE VALLEY

The Clwydian Range & Dee Valley has evolved over time, with geological activity, the climate and humans all helping to shape the places we treasure today.

Evidence of this can be found everywhere we look.  Although it is protected thanks to the AONB status, the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley is a living and working landscape.

It will continue to evolve and climate change is expected to have a major influence on this process.
