AHNE Bryniau Clwyd / Clwydian Range AONB

The character of the landscape is what makes an area unique. It is a distinct, recognisable and consistent pattern of elements – both natural and human.

Landscapes are different from one another because geology, biodiversity, visual appearance, archaeology, history and culture vary from place to place.

The Clwydian Range and Dee Valley may be referred to as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty but in fact its beauty is far from natural. It is the result of human intervention over thousands of years. And of course this complex interaction between people and their environment is still going on today.

Because the AONB is not some kind of rural theme park. It is a living, working landscape as well as a place of recreation.

Informed and responsible decisions about the management and planning of this very special landscape can only be taken by balancing all these factors. And only in this way will its unique character be preserved.
