This outdoor exhibition by Jessica and Philip Hatcher-Moore presents a series of encounters with the custodians—both celebrated and unknown—of the Dee Valley landscape.
The project was inspired by the artists’ relationships with the hills and vales around them, which deepened during the Coronavirus outbreak.
Jessica, a writer, and Philip, a photographer, made their home in the Dee Valley in 2016, after living and working in East Africa. In the spring of 2020, the land around them became their refuge, and their respect for those who maintain it grew.
“Wales can still appear gloriously wild, but it’s not untamed – an amazing amount of work goes into maintaining the footpaths, meadows and riverbanks of the area, which allows us to appreciate its essence. We wanted to explore that”, Jessica says.
‘Custodians’ will be on display at Wenffrwd Nature Reserve throughout the month of October, for everyone to enjoy during their visit.
This event is part of the Our Picturesque Landscape project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
