In early 2021 Llanbedr Community Council applied to the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB’s Sustainable Development Fund for capital improvements to the entrance way into the churchyard.

The old St Peter’s (OSP) churchyard has been a place of worship since the 13th century and is a grade II listed site. Church services stopped in 1865. It was deconsecrated in 1991 and largely left to revert back to nature.

As part of the community council’s long term sustainable open space development strategy, the council took over the maintenance costs for the churchyard in 2019 and are now working in partnership with the Church in Wales who will ultimately gift the churchyard to the community once a series of agreed works have been completed.

AONB Ranger Steve Williams who has been working with the group said “It has been great to support one of the many communities of the AONB to conserve and enhance the special qualities and distinctive character of the beautiful landscape”.
